Chinese automotive giant Xiaomi has unveiled a new type of automated electric vehicle charging system.
The innovation, which pairs an EV charger with a robotic arm, is set to launch in China before the end of the year.
It’s designed as a home system, where owners park their vehicle, and the charger operates entirely by itself.
The robotic arm will connect the charging cable to the car, and will then remove it once the car is full, or the pre-set charge level has been reached.
If the vehicle is within reach of the robotic arm. Charing can also be started remotely, through a smart phone app.
Outside of China, Xiaomi is yet to confirm which markets this technology will be rolled out to.
Considering European sales of its vehicles have already commenced, it’s likely that this region will be the first on the list.
Though this is the first brand to commit to a public roll-out, a number of Chinese manufacturers have reportedly been looking into it.
