Honda has named its first electric bike WN7

Hmm, not quite the ring of Fireblade. But WN7 it is, for Honda’s first electric motorcycle.

Production is set to begin soon and the order book is evidently open for European preorders of Honda’s WN7. First arrivals will hit dealerships early next year. 

CCS2 compatibility means a recharge is possible in 30 minutes. Home charging with a wall box takes three hours from 10 to 100 per cent.

The original machine turned up at EICMA last year as the EV FUN Concept. Now it will be known Honda WN7. The ‘W’ takes its inspiration from the development concept of ‘Be the Wind’. That’s presumably because it is so quiet you only hear wind noise.

The ‘N’ stands for ‘Naked’ (no fairing) and the 7 being a reference to the power class.  

Honda says the WN7 will run for more than 130km on its fixed lithium-ion battery, with flexible options for charging. Using an automotive-grade CCS2 coupling, rapid charging means a 20-80 per cent rezip in 30 minutes.

Weighing in at 217kg the WN7 uses an 18kW water-cooled motor. Honda says it delivers power similar to that of a 600cc regular motorcycle but with 100Nm of torque. That’s more like what a 900cc conventional bike makes. Honda is also offering a LAMS equivalent version, broadening access to battery-powered motorcycling.

The firm also says the WN7 is quiet, smooth and vibration- and emissions-free, giving a different experience to an ICE power machine.

Further WN7 details will emerge at EICMA 2025 but known features include a five-inch TFT screen plus LED lighting front and rear.
