Denza opens permanent Christchurch showroom

Words: Kyle Cassidy

Denza is moving from a shopping mall pop-up to a permanent Christchurch showroom, giving the premium BYD Group brand a dedicated base in the South Island.

The new premises at 36 Manchester Street replace its temporary presence at Northlands Mall. An official opening will take place from 5.30pm on Friday 25 September, followed by a public opening weekend on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.

Denza says the move gives Canterbury buyers a permanent location to explore the brand’s electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles as it develops its New Zealand retail network.

Its local range includes the B5 and B8 Hybrid 4×4 SUVs, both using plug-in hybrid powertrains, alongside the D9 all-electric luxury people mover.

Harmony New Zealand country manager Daniel Fang says the Christchurch investment is part of a wider plan to establish the brand throughout the country.

“Our vision is not simply to open another showroom. It is to establish DENZA as a premium automotive brand with a genuine presence across New Zealand, bringing our vehicles, technology and customer experience closer to customers throughout the South Island,” Fang says.

“Choosing Christchurch is about more than geography. It is about being where our customers are, understanding the local market, building long-term relationships, and creating a strong foundation for DENZA’s future in the South Island.”

The Christchurch operation is run by Harmony Auto, which also operates Denza East Auckland. The company recently reached 100,000 vehicle deliveries across its global business.

For Denza, the Manchester Street site is said to provide a longer-term base after several months at Northlands Mall, with Christchurch serving both local buyers and customers from the wider South Island.

Friday evening’s launch will host invited guests, automotive representatives, business and community stakeholders, and media. Customers can visit the new showroom during the public opening weekend on 26–27 September.
