First Ferrari Luce tipped to fetch more than US$1.1 million at auction

Words: Kyle Cassidy

The first production example of Ferrari’s electric Luce will be auctioned for charity in California on 15 August, although anyone taken with its unconventional styling will need particularly deep pockets.

RM Sotheby’s expects the car to sell for more than US$1.1 million. That is around twice the Luce’s rumoured regular starting price of €550,000, although this isn’t exactly a standard showroom example.

Known as ‘Chassis 0’, the car is a bespoke build created through Ferrari’s Tailor Made personalisation programme. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Ferrari Foundation.

The exterior is finished in Madreperla Semi-Gloss, a paint colour developed specifically for the car. Ferrari says the pearlescent finish produces reflections that shift between green and violet depending on the intensity and angle of the light.

That distinctive treatment continues inside, where the Luce features white ‘Le Mans metallic leather’. The material was developed for Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme using selected Swiss hides.

Secondary cabin elements are finished in Grigio Corvara, a dark shade used in place of a conventional black. Bespoke white wheels, unique brake calipers and a Ferrari badge applied to the front-side air blades complete the one-off specification.

The auction is open to bidders worldwide, but there is a catch for anyone planning to take Chassis 0 outside the United States. The car will be built to US specifications, with its eventual owner responsible for arranging its export and ensuring it meets the requirements of their home market.

Nor will the winning bidder be driving away from the sale in their new electric Ferrari. RM Sotheby’s says the car will return to Ferrari’s Maranello factory after the auction, with final delivery not expected until the first quarter of 2027.

The Luce has already generated considerable debate over its styling, but that is unlikely to discourage serious collectors from chasing the first production example.
