JMC utes begin testing in New Zealand ahead of local launch

Words: Andrew Sluys

Two new utes from Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) have begun a local testing program ahead of their looming launch.

News of this local testing has landed not long after NZ Autocar spotted a pair of the JMC utes sitting at an Auckland holding yard.

“These new utes have already been tried and proven in multiple markets around the world, but we’re taking things one step further with a local validation programme, designed to test the new vehicles in our conditions in preparation for the upcoming launch,” said David Herbert, JMC General Manager – Auto Distribution Holdings Limited.

At launch, the line-up will consist of the Vigus and the Grand Avenue, both of which use an eight-speed automatic transmission paired with a four-wheel drive system.

They also both use the same 2.5-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine, but peak outputs differ between the two models.

Where the lower-spec Vigus produces 123kW and 430Nm of torque, the Grand Avenue makes 155kW and 500Nm.

Following this theme, the Vigus sounds like the more rough and ready workhorse, whereas the Grand Avenue is targeted towards a more lifestyle-friendly demographic.

“Both models bring a combination of diesel power, robust 4×4 capability and practical double-cab configurations, while placing increased emphasis on interior comfort, technology and everyday usability,” Herbert said.

“JMC product is renowned for ease of operation, for example tactile buttons provide an intuitive vehicle interface within the cabin, supplemented with thoughtfully positioned screens which operate at impressive speeds.

“There’s no fiddling and searching for hidden icons or small switchgear when it comes to JMC utes, everything is instinctive and straightforward.”

Further details on final specifications and pricing for the Vigus and Grand Avenue will be announced closer to launch.

Auto Distribution Holdings is also building a nationwide JMC dealer network comprising initially of eight locations across Albany, Greenlane, Takanini, Hamilton, Tauranga, Taupō, Wellington and Christchurch, providing a foundation for sales and aftersales support as the brand prepares for launch.

Those interested in these utes are encouraged to register their interest through the JMC New Zealand website.
