Leapmotor has lifted the lid on the cabin of its upcoming A10 compact SUV ahead of its official debut later this month, showcasing a surprisingly tech-heavy interior for what is positioned as a budget-friendly EV.
Set to rival small electric SUVs such as the BYD Atto 2 in its home market, the A10 (known internationally as the B03X) will slot beneath the B10 in Leapmotor’s growing line-up.
While Chinese pricing is expected to start below RMB 100,000 (around NZ$20,000), any future New Zealand arrival would likely see the model positioned north of the $30,000 mark once local costs are factored in.
Flagship chips in a budget SUV
Despite its affordable billing, the A10 adopts high-end computing hardware more commonly found in premium models. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 cockpit chip, currently regarded as a flagship-grade processor, paired with a Snapdragon 8650 ADAS chip to support advanced driver-assistance and semi-autonomous functions.
The dashboard layout revealed in official images features a clean, horizontal design with barrel-style air vents and subtle patterned ambient lighting integrated into the trim.
Dominating the cabin are two screens: an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch 2.5K floating central touchscreen running Leapmotor’s in-house Leap OS software. The system also integrates an AI voice assistant powered by Alibaba’s Qwen technology for more natural voice interaction, we are told.
Other features include a 15W wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control and a 360-degree camera system. Heated and ventilated front seats are also expected to be offered.
Family-friendly touches
Leapmotor is pitching the A10 as a practical family option, and the interior packaging reflects that focus.
A feature is a hidden storage compartment beneath the rear seat base, which tilts upward for access. Rear passengers are said to benefit from generous legroom and there is a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade.
There’s also a fold-down tray table with a cupholder integrated into the back of the driver’s seat, and the boot offers additional underfloor storage (pictured below), a layout typically seen in larger SUVs.
Compact size, competitive range
Dimensionally, the A10 sits squarely in the compact SUV segment, measuring 4270mm long, 1810mm wide and 1635mm tall, riding on a 2605mm wheelbase.
Power comes from a single electric motor producing 90kW, paired with two battery options. A 39.8kWh pack offers a claimed 403km of range on China’s CLTC cycle, while a larger 53kWh battery extends that to 505km. Fast-charging capability is said to allow a 30–80 per cent top-up in just 16 minutes under ideal conditions.
On the outside, the A10 follows Leapmotor’s “Tech Natural Aesthetics 2.0” design language, featuring a closed-off front grille and softly contoured headlight units. The model was first displayed publicly at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show.
