
British performance startup McMurtry Automotive has revealed the production version of its Spéirling PURE electric hypercar
Following almost a decade of development, the single-seat track-only EV enters production with extensive revisions over the record-breaking prototype, including a larger battery, more powerful motors and a redesigned chassis.

According to McMurtry, around 95 per cent of the production car’s components are new compared with earlier prototypes.
The Spéirling first gained attention after setting the outright hillclimb record at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. More recently it broke the Top Gear test track record previously held by a 2004 Formula 1 car, before making headlines by becoming the first car to drive upside down using its fan-generated downforce system.

Power comes from a twin-motor rear-wheel-drive electric powertrain producing 746kW (1000bhp), backed by a larger 100kWh lithium-ion battery replacing the prototype’s 60kWh pack.
McMurtry claims the production car can sprint from 0-97km/h in just 1.55 seconds, reach a top speed of 305km/h and sustain up to 3g under both cornering and braking. Despite the larger battery, kerb weight is expected to remain around 1350kg.

Central to the Spéirling’s performance is McMurtry’s patented Downforce-on-Demand system. Rather than relying solely on aerodynamic wings, twin high-speed fans generate up to 2000kg of downforce from a standstill by drawing air from beneath the car.
The technology provides maximum grip regardless of speed, allowing the car to produce ‘race-car levels’ of cornering performance even in slower bends. McMurtry says the system also continues generating downforce during a spin, helping drivers regain control and reduce stopping distances.

The production model also receives a redesigned carbon-fibre monocoque that offers improved cabin space, a wider field of vision and easier entry and exit. A longer 2.2-metre wheelbase accommodates the larger battery, while new bodywork incorporates headlights, a small luggage compartment beneath the swan-neck rear wing and integrated track-day safety equipment including indicators and brake lights.
Inside, owners receive a bespoke cockpit with a custom-moulded racing seat tailored to their body shape, adjustable pedals and steering wheel, plus a digital display showing vehicle performance, battery state and fan settings. Buyers can also personalise interior colours, trim and stitching.

Unlike many ultra-high-performance track cars, McMurtry says the Spéirling PURE has been engineered for straightforward ownership. It can be operated at track days by the owner with the assistance of a single mechanic or friend, while access panels throughout the car simplify servicing.
Fast charging enables the battery to recharge from 20 to 95 per cent in between 20 and 60 minutes, depending on charger output, and an optional portable 100kWh battery pack can recharge the car away from fixed charging infrastructure.

The first customer cars will be hand-built at McMurtry’s new factory in England’s Cotswolds later this year.
Priced from £995,000 (around NZ$2.2 million before taxes and shipping), the Spéirling PURE is said to be eligible for events including Global Time Attack and European Time Attack Masters, while owners will also have access to an exclusive factory-supported owners’ club with track events and driver coaching.

The production-spec Spéirling PURE will make its first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next week before its North American debut at The Quail in California during Monterey Car Week in August.
