Omoda X revealed with 1800kg towing and thermal imaging

Omoda has revealed the X, a new crossover that it says combines the everyday practicality of an SUV with off-road ability and sports car styling.
We attended the reveal at Omoda X Night in Wuhu, China, where the car was unveiled under the tagline “I am X” as part of Chery Group’s International User Summit. Omoda calls it the first “Mecha Cross”.
In Omoda’s planned range, the X sits above the Omoda 7 and below a flagship called the G. An entry model called the Z is also coming. The company says all three will arrive within three years.

The exterior follows Omoda’s Mecha design language, with a muscular stance and sharp geometric lines. Lighting is a big part of the look, and the tail lights take their shape from what the brand calls energy strikes.
Ground clearance is 200mm and wading depth is more than 700mm. The X can tow up to 1800kg and carry 75kg on the roof. The paint gets a ProGloss Plus clearcoat, which Omoda says is scratch resistant and self-healing.
The car on display wore Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres in 255/55 R19 on black wheels with yellow inserts, yellow brake calipers and yellow coil springs. It carries Mecha badging on the side sills and an Off-Road badge on the rear pillars.

Inside, what Omoda calls the Mecha Starship Cockpit pairs a 10.25-inch digital instrument display with a portrait-oriented 13.2-inch media screen. Metal-effect toggle switches, dials and knobs on the centre console cover frequently used functions, alongside a red start/stop switch. Omoda says there are 39 storage spaces through the cabin.

A configurable drive setting called X Mode lets owners adjust the car’s behaviour to suit how they drive.
The X gets a thermal imaging system with a recognition range of up to 90m. Omoda Open Mic offers in-car karaoke without a handheld microphone, using four independent voice zones. The Mecha Pet is an NFC companion that attaches magnetically and interacts with the driver.
Omoda hasn’t released powertrain details, dimensions or pricing. It says market launch plans will be announced later. We previewed the X’s debut last week.
