Omoda X set for global debut alongside new hybrid tech

Words: Kyle Cassidy

Omoda will reveal a new model called the X on October 20, with the unveiling forming part of Chery Group’s International User Summit in Wuhu, China.

The brand is previewing a more muscular design that combines sports-car influences with off-road styling cues. Sharp geometric lines feature in its description, although full specifications and market launch plans are still to come.

The brand says the X takes its current design language further, mixing sports car and off-roader cues with sharp geometric lines. It has not said what will power it, or whether it is a concept or a production model.

The wider summit runs from October 18–24 and will bring together customers, media and industry partners for new-model presentations, technology demonstrations and driving events.

An annual long-distance endurance drive will put Omoda Jaecoo’s latest Super Hybrid models through their paces. Vehicles taking part include the Omoda 4 SHS-H and Omoda 7 SHS-H, with the latter introducing a new 5kWh battery for its HEV powertrain.

That battery announcement relates to the Omoda 7, with the X’s powertrain details yet to be outlined.

The Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 were recently shown at Everything Electric Sydney. Both are confirmed for Australian introduction in the first half of 2027, and should show up here in NZ too.

Cabin technology and automated parking will also feature at the summit. A demonstration programme running from October 19–21 will showcase the company’s Super Intelligent Valet Parking system, including remote vehicle summoning, parking in difficult spaces and obstacle avoidance.

Alongside it, the Super Intelligent AI Space programme will explore voice commands, multiple requests within a single instruction and personalised responses. Omoda Jaecoo says demonstrations will also include recommendations based on user preferences and AI virtual pets.

The company is presenting these as opportunities to test how its systems respond in practical scenarios, with vehicle manoeuvring and cabin interaction forming separate parts of the programme.

Omoda says market launch plans for the X will be communicated later. New Zealand pricing and arrival timing have not been detailed in the summit announcements.
