A slew of Kiwi motorsport stars including Scott Dixon were in attendance at the opening of the Sir Colin Giltrap Raceway in Auckland.

Set to provide a world-class track for New Zealand’s karting community, the raceway is situated at Colin Dale Park.

The six-time IndyCar champion was joined by Mitch Evans and Jonny Reid at the event, who also both saw success in karts.

“To see this level of investment in grassroots motorsport is huge. It gives young Kiwis the chance to dream big – and that’s what Sir Colin always believed in,” Evans said.

Upon the facility’s unveiling, Richard and Michael Giltrap said how they were honoured to be part of such a significant event.

“We are delighted to assist KartSport in Auckland in realising this facility. However, the true credit however, belongs to the committee and the wider karting community. Their commitment and perseverance have made this possible.

“Our involvement is simply about helping nurture the next generation of champions; inspired by Sir Colin Giltrap’s legacy of supporting Kiwi drivers.”

Both KartSport Mt Wellington and Auckland are in the process of amalgamating as they prepare to make the new facility their home track in 2026.

Dixon’s son, Kit, was the first to turn laps on the fresh asphalt, taking little time to find his feet in the borrowed cadet kart.

After finishing his time on the track, Kit came in for a chocolate milk, mirroring his dad’s penchant for dairy on the podium.
