Toyota, Ford, BMW and Skoda issue recalls for New Zealand vehicles

Words: Andrew Sluys

Another round of recalls was released on February 19, and included in this group are vehicles from popular automakers.

Toyota, Ford, BMW, Skoda, and Lexus are included in this group, see details of each recall below:

TOYOTA  LANDCRUISER Model years 2024-2025

Statement:

Automatic Transmission ECU: The subject vehicles are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission that contains linear solenoids to control the shifting of gears. If a solenoid failure occurs under certain driving conditions, the Transmission Electronic Control Unit (T-ECU) and the Engine ECU may not communicate the failure, resulting in the transmission over-revving in certain gears. This could result in damage to the transmission and a loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds. If certain damage occurs to the transmission housing, there is also the possibility for transmission fluid to leak from the housing. These conditions can lead to an increased risk of a crash, or a fire in the presence of an ignition source. NOT ALL VEHICLES IN THE MODEL YEARS ARE INVOLVED.

Instructions:

As an owner of an involved vehicle, you will be contacted by registered letter requesting you to contact your nearest authorised Toyota Store to arrange a convenient time to have the repairs completed at no cost. Alternatively, contact Toyota’s Customer Dialogue Centre to discuss.

LEXUS  LX Model years 2024-2025

Ford Puma ST up on three wheels

FORD  PUMA Model year 2023

Statement:

According to Ford’s records, the remedy software for Safety Recall 23S52 may not have been installed correctly during a prior dealership visit. Because the correct software may not have been installed on your vehicle, the underlying condition specified in Safety Recall 23S52 may still exist. On the affected vehicles, the Restraint Control Module (RCM) was loaded with incorrect software.

BMW  X3, 3 SERIES, X4 Model years 2020-2022

Statement:

Production influences can lead to increased wear in the Starter Motor solenoid switch on affected vehicles after a large number of starting operations. This impairs the engine’s starting capability. Under certain circumstances, it may no longer be possible to start the engine. In addition, a short circuit in the solenoid switch cannot be ruled out, which can lead to local overheating of the starter motor. In this case, smoke may be visible or noticeable while driving or when exiting the vehicle. BMW AG therefore recommends that the vehicle should not be left unattended following engine start. Additional note for countries offering “Remote Engine Start Function (OE 01CR)”: BMW AG recommends not using the “Remote Engine Start” function via the My BMW App or the radio-operated key until the repair has been carried out.

BMW  X3, X4, 3 SERIES, 4 SERIES, 5 SERIES Model years 2020-2022

Statement:

In the vehicles concerned, production influences can lead to increased wear in the Starter Motor solenoid switch after a large number of starting operations. As a result, the engine’s starting capability degrades. It may then no longer be possible to start the vehicle’s engine. In addition, a short circuit in the solenoid switch cannot be ruled out, which may lead to local overheating at the starter motor. In this case, smoke may be visible or perceptible while driving or exiting the vehicle. For this reason, BMW AG recommends that you do not leave the vehicle unattended after the engine start. Additional note for countries offering the “Remote Engine Start (OE 01CR)” function: BMW AG recommends that you do not use the “Remote Engine Start” function via the My BMW App or the radio-operated key until the repair has been carried out.

SKODA  KODIAQ Model years 2025-2026

Statement:
