BMW has given the world the best glimpse of the next-generation electric M3 with the unveiling of the M Concept Neue Klasse.
According to the German brand, this doesn’t just preview the M3, but the design language that all future M cars will follow.
Set to replace the G80 M3, which finishes production this year, the new M3 seems to be just as divisive on the styling front.
The front and rear ends of this M concept is said to be inspired by trimaran multi-hull racing sailboats.
I believe this is in reference to the front and rear bumper designs, the large recesses on either side.
BMW’s iconic kidney grilles have also been reworked in an extremely angular fashion, which leans into the aggressive look.
Around the side, the concept sports a set of very wide wheel arches, which seems to be a reference to the original E30 M3.
Also the wing mirrors are pretty crazy looking in their own right, which extend from a thin arm in the style of a race car.
At the rear, the M3 wears a duck tail spoiler that’s integrated into the bootlid, and sports a large taillight across it.
On the inside, things get arguably wilder on this concept, with a very race car-looking red and blue interior.
Looking like an evolution of the optional carbon fibre bucket seats offered in the G80, these seats are extreme.
Not only does the sedan get four of them, they also all use a very serious looking racing harness.
It’s unclear as to how much of this gear will make it to the production M3, but it looks like it’s going to be a wild machine in many ways.
It should make use of a battery larger than 100kWh, and pump out over 730kW from its dual-motor driveline.
