BMW New Zealand confirms pricing for new X5 SUV
Words: Andrew Sluys
BMW New Zealand has announced pricing for the new X5, which will arrive locally in the first quarter of 2027.
Since being introduced in 1999, BMW has sold more than 3.1 million X5s, with over 7,000 of these coming from New Zealand.

As a first for BMW’s mid-size SUV, it will be offered exclusively with either plug-in hybrid or electric power.
It will be priced from $174,900 for the X5 50e xDrive, and $182,900 for the iX5 60 xDrive.
There’s a notable absence of any exclusively ICE-powered models in this new X5 line-up, but that might be filled by the X5 M at a later date.

As we’ve seen already, this new X5 features BMW’s Neue Klasse-inspired design, which is a drastic step away from the previous-generation’s styling.
As the entry point to the local X5 range, the X5 50e xDrive pairs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol inline-six engine with a plug-in hybrid system.
The peak outputs for this driveline sit at 360kW and 700Nm, allowing it to hit 100km/h from a standing start in five seconds.

It features a 25kWh battery, which provides an electric driving range of up to 102km (WLTP).
As the name suggests, it features BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, and is rated to tow up to 3.5-tonnes with a braked trailer.
The other variant on offer is the all-electric iX5 60 xDrive, which features a dual-motor configuration, producing 425kW and 805Nm.

It is able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.6-seconds before topping out at a limited 210km/h.
It uses a massive 141kWh battery which provides a claimed driving range of up to 845km (WLTP).
It also features 800-volt architecture which allows it to be charged at up to 460kW when using a DC fast charger.
At this speed, it will be able to replenish 350km of range in just ten minutes.

Standard equipment on the outside across both models includes 21-inch alloy wheels, soft close doors, and roof rails in black.
Inside, the control display is housed in BMW’s Free-Cut Design, joined by a BMW 3D Head-up Display. A BMW Passenger Screen gives the front-seat passenger their own entertainment, and BMW Panoramic Vision extends the visual experience across the dash.
Audio comes from a Bowers & Wilkins 18-speaker surround sound system, paired with BMW iconic Sound Electric and a DAB+ tuner.

There’s also a wireless phone charger, plus a heated steering wheel.
Front occupants get electric seat adjustment with memory, plus the Seat Comfort Package. It brings multifunctional seats for the driver and front passenger, active seat ventilation, a front massage function and seat heating.
BMW is offering this new X5 with nine paint options, including two individual colours. All hues aside from white come at a $2,000 premium.
There are also a range of optional 22 and 23-inch wheels to choose from, all offered at extra cost.
As mentioned, BMW New Zealand is expecting deliveries of this new X5 to start in the first quarter of 2027.
