Just last week, the world got its first official look at BMW’s new electric 3 Series sedan, which is going to be called the i3.
It seems internet sleuths have wasted little time in uncovering the high-performance version of this sedan, leaking images of the M3 version already.
We have been seeing camouflaged M3 prototypes testing for some time now, but this is the first time we have seen it uncovered.
These images were first published by RReplayer on the Bimmer Post forum.
It’s clear that this new electric M3 is a complete departure styling-wise from the model’s heritage.
It is obviously based on the i3, with the aesthetic given an aggressive makeover with extra air intakes and such.

There’s also a divider running through the centre of the grille, into the lower portion of the bumper, adding to the aggressive look.
While some have argued this can’t be the M car as it’s too narrow, others have pointed out how it isn’t a great camera angle to show the flared guards.
Beneath this new exterior, this electric M3 will be powered by four electric motors, delivering over 800kW.
With this much grunt on offer, it will likely be a lot quicker than any M3 that has come before it, but the main question will be around driver engagement.
There’s no question as to whether or not this electric M3 will be heavy, but can BMW work the same magic with this like they did with the new M5?
