Ford announces US pricing for its “affordable” electric pick up truck

Words: Andrew Sluys

Ford has announced US pricing for the “affordable” electric pick up truck that has been teased for some time now.

It also revealed that this truck will be called the ‘Fathom’ when it goes on sale in early 2027.

Priced from US$28,350, Ford claims that the price is the least interesting part of this new truck.

The direct conversion puts it beneath $50,000 in NZD, but these prices never perfectly translate, and the Fathom hasn’t even been confirmed for right-hand drive production.

The blue oval promises that it will have more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, and more load practicality thanks to the front and rear load spaces.

It will reportedly feature a large infotainment display with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Apple Maps will also be built into this system, which is an industry first.

It will also get bi-directional charging capabilities, plus a digital key.

Thanks to its Apple Maps tie up, Ford’s blue cruise system will be able to use this information, providing “a more seamless on-ramp to off-ramp experience.”

Ford is yet to reveal any powertrain details, but it is understood to carry a battery that provides at least 482km of range.

There’s also a Kiwi connection with this new Fathom, as Kiwi Kay Hart is the leader of the Project E team.

She recently posted to LinkedIn about the unveiling:

“I’m so excited to finally share the name of our all-new midsize electric truck – Ford Fathom™. The energy and excitement for this product are undeniable and believe me when I say… this changes everything!

“In this next chapter, we are proving what it means to create an affordable electric truck that refuses to compromise on space, capability, or tech.

“At a starting MSRP of $28,350 with standard-range battery, you get more interior room than a RAV4 (plus a frunk and bed), BlueCruise hands-free driving capability, bi-directional power capability, a large high-res touchscreen, a digital key, and a truly fun-to-drive electric truck.

“I’m incredibly proud of this team and I cannot wait for you to experience the Ford Fathom™!”
