Report: Ford to start production of Bronco-based ute 

Ford is reportedly set to begin production of a Bronco-based ute, which would land in showrooms ahead of 2030. 

News of this pick-up was first reported on by Automotive News, who claims it will be manufactured at a Ford plant in Michigan.

Like the Rangers that are also manufactured at this plant, this would mean the Bronco ute will be exclusively built in left-hand drive guise. 

Considering the Bronco and Ranger share underpinnings, it wouldn’t seem out of the question to bring it to the New Zealand and Australian markets. 

Powertrains are also shared between the two vehicles, with the 2.3-litre hybrid and 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 used in both models lines. 

And while the Bronco is yet to be offered in any form locally, a recent Australian dealer leak all-but confirmed the imminent arrival of the Bronco New Energy across the ditch. 

Alongside this Bronco ute, Ford has also committed to building a new “affordable” electric ute, which will be called “Fathom”.

While right-hand drive production is yet to be confirmed, a direct price conversion would put it below NZ$50,000.

Ford is yet to reveal any powertrain details, but it is understood to carry a battery that provides at least 482km of range.
