Subaru announces trio of STI-tuned special editions for Tokyo Auto Salon
Words: Andrew Sluys
Subaru has unveiled three vehicles that have been enhanced by the STI performance department, which will debut at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon.
Based on the WRX, Levorg, and Impreza, these “STI-tuned” models follow the brand’s recent ethos around special editions, limiting the changes to aesthetics and not performance.

Considering the similarities between the WRX and the Levorg, it makes sense that both received a slew of similar upgrades.
Dubbed the ‘Levorg STI Sport R-Black Limited II STI Performance’, it retains the same turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer engine, with 204kW and 375Nm.
Additions on the exterior include black bumper accents, 18-inch alloy wheels, STI badging, and STI exhaust tips.
On the inside, it gets Recaro sports seats that feature yellow stitching which matches the Sunrise Yellow paint.
The WRX more or less benefits from the same upgrades, and the model is just as much of a mouthful — the ‘WRX S4 STI Sport R-Black Limited II STI’.

The third model to get the modern STI treatment is the Impreza hatch.
Dubbed the ‘Impreza ST-H STI Performance Edition’, this gets the same black bodykit treatment and black wheels to compliment it.
Unlike the other two, the Impreza forgoes the special paint, and misses out on the fancy interior to match.
It’s likely that these vehicles will be limited to the Japanese market following the show, which starts on January 9.
