Toyota New Zealand issues recall for Camry over screen issue

Toyota New Zealand has issued a recall for 176 Camrys in New Zealand, citing an issue with the vehicle’s digital cluster.

The recall notice concerns 176 sedans manufactured between June 2024 and November 2025.

According to Toyota’s local arm, this is a “precautionary measure” and involves reprogramming the instrument cluster. 

The brand adds it will be completed “free of charge”, and owners of affected vehicles “will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand by letter.”

While Toyota New Zealand isn’t proving much information on why the screen needs to be reprogrammed, the Australian notice goes into more detail. 

“Due to a software error, the 7.0-inch combination meter may fail to display at vehicle startup, thereby failing to display important warning messages and core driving information (eg: dashboard indicators and speedometer),” says the notice issued by Toyota Australia.

“This can also deactivate the turn signal and hazard lamps and certain audible warnings (such as the key left in ignition and the driver/passenger seat belt reminder).”

“If important warning messages and core driving information are not displayed on the combination meter, there can be an increased risk of accident resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
