Toyota New Zealand partners with Evnex as official charging supplier

Toyota New Zealand has locked in Christchurch-based Evnex as their official EV charger partner.

News of this partnership comes as Toyota’s BEV and PHEV range expands with the Hilux BEV, RAV4 PHEV, bZ4X Touring, and a second-gen bZ4X all landing in quick succession.

Toyota NZ CEO Tatsuya Ishikawa says the tie-up reflects a broader philosophy: “Electrification isn’t just about building great vehicles. It’s about making ownership simple, practical and confidence-inspiring. As we expand our electrified vehicle lineup, we’re equally focused on the ecosystem that supports our customers long after they drive away.”

He points to Evnex’s nationwide installer network, Kiwi-made hardware, and forward-looking tech roadmap as key drawcards, adding that most EV owners charge at home or work.

Evnex units also works with single and three-phase setups without needing a switchboard or meter upgrade.

Evnex founder and CEO Ed Harvey says the company is “extremely excited to be working with Toyota New Zealand.”

Charge testing kicks off with the Hilux BEV Driver Series, running August to November 2026, which puts the new ute in the hands of up to 15 fleet decision-makers.

Most will run Evnex’s E2 charger, adding up to 50km of range per hour with smart scheduling for off-peak or solar charging.

Sweetening the deal, Toyota customers get a five-year charger warranty through Evnex — a year longer than Evnex’s standard four-year cover — aligning with Toyota’s own extended warranty programme.
