Volkswagen Amarok Walkinshaw confirmed for December arrival

Words: Andrew Sluys

Volkswagen New Zealand has announced the Amarok Walkinshaw will be arriving locally later this year.

It follows in the footsteps of the Amarok W580, which was based on the previous-generation ute, but also tuned by Walkinshaw.

This new Walkinshaw version retains the same turbo diesel V6 making 184kW/600Nm as the standard model.

It also keeps the same 10-speed automatic transmission, paired with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

The changes to this model lie in the handling department, where it gets a bespoke KONI suspension system.

This uses Frequency Selective Damping technology with Walkinshaw-specific calibration, and a 22mm rear anti-roll bar.

On the outside, it wears model-exclusive 20-inch wheels which are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres.

There’s also a styling pack, with a front light bar, electronic side steps, dual side-exit exhausts, and Walkinshaw badging.

“Our partnership with Walkinshaw brings together two brands with a shared passion for engineering, capability and driver engagement.

“The Amarok Walkinshaw is something truly special for our customers. This special edition amplifies the personality and presence of Amarok, creates excitement around the nameplate and gives customers another reason to choose Volkswagen,” says Chanelle McDonald, General Manager at Volkswagen New Zealand.

Volkswagen New Zealand notes that pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the local launch date.

Deliveries are expected to commence in December.
