Zeekr 7GT ‘Special Edition’ in consideration for New Zealand
Words: Andrew Sluys
Zeekr is reportedly sizing up a special edition of its new 7GT wagon for the New Zealand market, but it seems safety concerns might be holding it back.
During the recent launch of the 7GT in New Zealand, which was also attended by a raft of Australian media members, this special edition was discussed.

The standout feature of this variant would be Zeekr’s ‘Stargate’ lighting system, which is capable of displaying messages and patterns on the front of the vehicle.
These messages are displayed on the integrated light bar, which spans the width of the vehicle, and features 1711 light beads.
This display runs with a 30 frames per second refresh rate, similar to that of a standard online video.
The biggest hurdle Zeekr would have to overcome to bring this feature to our part of the world is Australian regulations.

These Australian Design Rules (or ADRs) are strict on external displays, as you aren’t allowed to have anything that could be mistaken for an emergency vehicle.
ANCAP represents the other hurdle, as the 7GTs equipped with this special display reportedly won’t achieve a five-star rating.
Both of these present a rather large issue for Zeekr, as Australia is the main market when bringing vehicles to our part of the world.
Zeekr Product Manager, Kenneth Lu told Autocar this model is still “under discussion”, but stopped short of confirming any sort of production.
