Audi has confirmed it will expand its electric vehicle range with the introduction of the new Audi A2 e-tron, an all-electric compact model set to be unveiled in late 2026.

The new model will sit at the entry point of the German brand’s EV lineup and is intended to make premium electric mobility more accessible to a broader audience. Production of the A2 e-tron will take place at Audi’s Ingolstadt facility in Germany.

Announced by Audi CEO Gernot Döllner during the company’s Annual Media Conference, the new compact EV represents the next stage in Audi’s push towards a fully electrified future.

“We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever,” said Döllner.

Compact EV aimed at urban buyers

Audi says the A2 e-tron is designed with city drivers in mind, targeting buyers who want an efficient, practical and digitally connected electric vehicle suited to everyday urban use.

The company believes demand for compact EVs is continuing to grow, particularly in major European cities where space, efficiency and sustainability are key considerations for buyers.

The name also pays tribute to the original Audi A2, a pioneering lightweight hatchback launched more than 25 years ago that focused heavily on efficiency and urban mobility. Audi says the new electric model will carry that philosophy into the modern EV era.

Built in Germany

The A2 e-tron will be manufactured at Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, forming part of the company’s strategy to transition its European factories toward electric vehicle production.

Döllner says the model will play an important role both for the brand and for the facility itself.

“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’,” he said.

Part of wider model expansion

Audi says the compact EV forms part of a broader product offensive that has seen more than 20 new models launched across 2024 and 2025. The company claims this has resulted in one of the youngest line-ups in the premium automotive segment.

Looking ahead to 2026, Audi plans to further expand both ends of its range, with the A2 e-tron strengthening the entry-level side of the portfolio while a new flagship SUV — the Audi Q9 — is expected to anchor the upper end.

Audi has also released an early design sketch of the A2 e-tron, revealing the silhouette of the upcoming compact EV ahead of its global debut later this year.
