A US state wants to impose an EV sales ban

Words: Harrison Wade

Lawmakers in Wyoming have decided they want to ban the sale of electric vehicles (EV) in an effort to protect its oil and gas industry.

The ban falls under a proposed legislation which states that it wants to phase out the sale of new EVs in the US state by 2035.

Six state legislators shared their backing for the bill, stating that the zero emissions vehicles will have “deleterious impacts on Wyoming’s communities and will be detrimental to Wyoming’s economy and the ability for the country to efficiently engage in commerce.”

The bill also stated that installing electric charging stations would require large amounts of power needed to sustain the “misadventure” of EVs.

However, according to Car and Driver, it won’t actually ban EV sales but simply encourage Wyoming’s industries and citizens to limit the sale and purchase of them.

It seems then that those in favour are simply having a dig at states like California and countries who plan to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel-powered vehicles.

The bill even states Wyoming’s secretary of state to send a copy of it to the governor of California.
