Ford Puma recalled for seatbelt and airbag safety issue in NZ

Ford New Zealand is recalling 411 of its Puma SUVs for an issue that could prevent the airbag from deploying in a collision.

The issue is in relation to the vehicle’s Restraint Control Module (RCM) which was loaded with an “incorrect configuration” during manufacturing.

This may lead to warning lights not being displayed, as well as seatbelt pretensioners and airbags not performing as they should in the event of an accident.

Not all Pumas are affected though, as the recall only applies to models built between 2 May and 25 July 2023.

Some of the affected vehicles have yet to reach customers and will be given a software update to remedy the issue before they do.

For Kiwis who have already received their Puma, a Ford New Zealand spokesperson says they will be notified directly by the company about arranging a time to fix the issue.

Across the ditch in Australia, a total of 307 vehicles have been recalled over the same problem.
