Geely’s updated EX5 electric SUV will offer a more powerful rear-wheel-drive option and an 800V electrical system in China, alongside styling changes and additional storage.
Technical details for the 2027 model reveal a substantial overhaul for higher-grade variants, although the entry-level EX5 retains its existing front-drive layout.

The biggest change is a new 245kW motor mounted on the rear axle, an 85kW increase over the 160kW front motor retained by the base model.
Higher-grade versions also move to an 800V architecture, while the entry-level model continues with a 400V system. That means the updated Chinese range will offer different drivetrain layouts and charging capabilities depending on specification.

According to details reported by Car News China, the rear-drive versions offer battery capacities of 60.22kWh, 61.52kWh and 70.01kWh. Reported WLTP ranges are 429km, 446km and 514km respectively.
The higher-voltage models are also reported to support ‘6C’ charging, describing a charging rate equivalent to six times the battery’s capacity.

For the largest battery, Drive estimates that could translate to approximately 420kW peak charging power and potentially a 10–80 per cent recharge in 10 to 12 minutes.
Those figures remain estimates. Official peak charging power and a confirmed 10–80 per cent time weren’t quoted, so the suggested performance shouldn’t be treated as a manufacturer claim.
Practical changes include a 160-litre storage compartment beneath the bonnet and a move away from pop-out door handles.
The exterior receives a revised front bumper with matte chrome detailing, while 19-inch wheels become available.
Cabin changes are more restrained, with a new three-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel and an available brown upholstery option.
Familiar features continue, including a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, digital instrument display, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof and Flyme premium audio.
