Geely becomes NZ Rugby League’s first vehicle partner

Words: Kyle Cassidy

Geely has signed a three-year deal to become New Zealand Rugby League’s first official vehicle partner, supplying a fleet of 12 Starray EM-i SUVs to support the organisation’s work around the country.

The partnership covers NZRL and the Kiwis, with the Kiwi Ferns joining from 2027. Geely branding will also feature on the Kiwis’ jersey at the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

The Starray EM-i fleet will be used by NZRL’s head office and regional associations, supporting staff working across the game from junior participation to senior club rugby league.

Each vehicle will wear a wrap designed to complement the team uniform, giving the organisation a recognisable presence as staff travel between communities.

NZRL chief executive Andrea Nelson said the partnership would help support the sport’s growth.

“We’re very excited to welcome Geely to the NZRL whānau and look forward to working together, with a shared focus on innovation and performance. We’re proud to partner with a company that understands the importance of helping people go further, as we continue to grow our game across Aotearoa.”

Geely’s New Zealand operation is part of NordEast Vehicle Distributors. NordEast Group general manager Dane Fisher said the agreement would support both regional rugby league and the national team.

“The values that sit behind rugby league in New Zealand, community, resilience and opportunity, closely mirror what we’re building with Geely. We’re proud to stand alongside NZRL and support the people growing the game across the country. Whether it’s helping regional associations get further into their communities or backing the Kiwis on the world stage, this partnership is about creating positive impact and helping people go further.”

For NZRL, the agreement adds vehicle support for its head office and regional network, with community access a central focus of the three-year partnership.
