Haval adds value with $29k Jolion

GWM New Zealand has confirmed the return of the Haval Jolion Petrol to the local line-up, with pricing starting from $28,990 plus on-road costs.
GWM says the move brings a more affordable petrol-powered option back into the compact SUV segment, at a time when cost pressures continue to weigh heavily on Kiwi households. The company tells us the reintroduction is aimed at buyers wanting a modern, well-equipped SUV without stepping into higher price brackets that now dominate much of the class.
It is positioned as a value-focused offering but GWM reckons the Jolion Petrol combines contemporary styling with a generous standard specification and a strong safety package. Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 105kW and 210Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and engine stop/start technology. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.7L/100km.
The Jolion Petrol retains a five-star ANCAP safety rating and offers practical credentials, including a braked towing capacity of 1500kg. GWM believes this balance of safety, efficiency and everyday usability will appeal to buyers rethinking their priorities in the current economic climate.
GWM New Zealand country manager Cameron Thomas said affordability has become a key factor for many consumers. “Affordability matters now more than ever. The reintroduction of the Haval Jolion Petrol is about giving New Zealanders a sensible, reliable choice that doesn’t compromise on features or safety, while remaining genuinely attainable in today’s economic conditions,” he said.
The Haval Jolion Petrol will be offered nationwide through GWM dealers in two variants, Premium and Lux ($31,990), giving buyers a choice of specification levels while maintaining a competitive entry price in the compact SUV market.
Others to consider in this market segment are the Chery Tiggo 4 which is $24,990 and $29,990 for the Ultimate, the Mahindra XUV3XO AX5L at $29,990 while the Omoda C5 is currently on sale for $28,990.
