GWM has taken the covers off the Haval HX ahead of its first public appearance at the upcoming Beijing motor show.
The HX moniker is reportedly a place-holder until the SUV is unveiled in full and confirmed for international markets.

Revealed as a rival to the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Land Rover Defender, the HX is expected to be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
With an imposing box-like aesthetic, the HX looks to be an evolution of GWM’s Tank brand, and will likely offer more luxury.
Its squared-off headlights paired with the widened wheel arches and roof rails makes for a very go-anywhere looking SUV.

Beneath this tough exterior, this HX is expected to be powered by the 2.0-litre petrol plug-in hybrid system that’s currently offered in the Tank locally.
Both the Tank 500 and now the Tank 300 benefit from the ‘Hi4-T’ system, which uses electric motors to form the 4×4 driveline.

The key difference with the HX is that it is expected to receive an electric motor on each wheel, allowing for more specific torque distribution.
The HX hasn’t been confirmed for any international markets as of yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it land in NZ eventually.
