Honda New Zealand has confirmed pricing for the return of one of its historic nameplates, with the all-new Honda Prelude set to arrive later this month.

Reborn as the brand’s first hybrid sports car, the 2026 Prelude will be available to order from April 24 through Honda Centres, priced at $69,990 plus on-road costs. It will be offered in a single grade with a choice of five exterior colours.

Competitors in this segment are few, but include the likes of the Subaru BRZ at $62,990 and the Toyota GR 86 ($59,990).

The relaunch marks the return of the Prelude badge after more than 25 years, bringing with it a blend of modern hybrid technology and performance-focused engineering.

Honda New Zealand Managing Director Carolyn McMahon said the new model delivers a compelling mix of style, performance and value.

“We’re fortunate to experience some of the world’s best driving roads in New Zealand, and now with the all-new Prelude, Kiwis will have a car that promises an elevated connected and fun driving experience,” said Ms McMahon.

Built on a platform shared with the Civic Type R, Honda says the new Prelude has been engineered to deliver sharp handling and a confident, engaging drive. Its design is said to draw inspiration from aerodynamic efficiency, giving the coupe a sleek and purposeful look.

“The 2026 Prelude evokes the same character and emotions as its predecessors: combining a brave, daring and performance-led design, with a best-in-class hybrid engine, and attractive pricing. It’s the complete package,” said Ms McMahon.

The Prelude will feature Honda’s new S+ Shift technology, designed to enhance driver engagement by simulating the feel of traditional gear changes. Honda says the system delivers an evocative engine note, along with throttle response that mimics the ‘kick’ and rev-matching ‘blip’ typically associated with performance driving.

“We’re also excited to launch our new S+ Shift technology to further enhance the joy of driving. I personally can’t wait for our customers to try it out for themselves”

Honda says the all-new Prelude has been carefully crafted to deliver a connected and confidence-inspiring driving experience, while also offering the efficiency benefits of hybrid power.
