Two of Hyundai New Zealand’s zero-emissions trucks are now eligible for grants under the Government’s Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund (LEHVF).

This urban electric truck has roughly 200km of range from its 115kWh battery pack.

This $27.75 million fund is administered by the Energy Efficient and Conservation Authority (EECA). It aims to accelerate the adoption of zero and low-emission heavy vehicles across the country.

The LEHVF provides grants to customers for the purchase of zero and low-emission heavy vehicles on EECA’s list of approved vehicles. Hyundai New Zealand’s Mighty Electric light-duty truck and the XCIENT Hydrogen heavy-duty truck are now both on the list.

The former is an electric light-duty truck designed for urban and regional transport, offering zero emissions and high efficiency. It features a 114kWh battery and a 120kW/320Nm motor, offering range of 200km. Funding is capped at $35,000.

Here are the battery packs for the Might Electric light-duty truck.

The latter is a heavy-duty workhorse, delivering performance and efficiency for long-haul operations. It takes 8-20min to refuel and offers a range of 400km. Funding is capped at $200,000.

The real workhorse here, takes not much time to refill and offers range of 400km.

The grant means that the government pays for up to 25 per cent of the purchase price of a new battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle. A similar amount can go towards converting an ICE vehicle first registered in New Zealand between 1 August 2022 and 1 August 2024 to a zero-emissions or low-emissions vehicle.

Also on the list for grant eligibility are plug-in diesel-electric hybrids and hydrogen-diesel dual-fuel vehicles.

Grant Doull, National Manager of Hydrogen & Eco Commercial Vehicles for Hyundai New Zealand commented “This initiative represents a significant step forward for New Zealand’s transport sector.”

He added “We are proud to offer these advanced Electric and Hydrogen solutions and support businesses in making a positive environmental impact.”
