Mini Countryman heads off the beaten track with Untamed edition

Words: Kyle Cassidy

Mini is giving the Countryman more scope for adventures beyond the seal, with a new Untamed Edition bringing tougher styling and mechanical upgrades on selected models.

Production begins at BMW’s Leipzig factory in November 2026, ahead of an international launch in early 2027. New Zealand availability remains TBC, but we’ll update the situation once we hear back form BMW NZ. It would be a welcome addition to the range if it was offered down our way.

The changes start with a 15mm suspension lift, which, combined with specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres, can increase ground clearance by up to 19mm.

Mini has also recalibrated the steering, anti-lock braking and stability control systems to suit the revised suspension and tyres, with improvements to approach and breakover angles.

There’s an important distinction between markets, however. North American petrol and electric Untamed models receive the suspension lift, while in Europe it’s only offered on the electric SE ALL4. All-terrain tyres are standard in North America but optional in Europe.

The visual makeover extends across a wider selection of powertrains. Every Untamed gets exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels, with a five-spoke design inspired by the steel wheels traditionally found on working four-wheel drives.

A revised grille features vertical elements and Dark Steel detailing, accompanied by redesigned side sills, underbody protection elements and a reshaped rear diffuser. Textured matt-black protective film covers areas around the wheelarches, sills and bonnet to help fend off stone chips.

A blue mountain-themed Untamed badge appears on the C-pillar, with the motif repeated inside.

The cabin introduces Nightshade Blue sports seats, knitted dashboard and door trim, and darker metallic accents. A redesigned centre-console storage compartment uses elastic retaining straps, while rubber floor and boot mats should make cleaning up after muddy outings easier.

New exterior colours include Hideaway Grey and Nomad Blue. Frozen Nomad Blue follows as Mini’s first factory matt paint finish, with contrasting white or black roofs available.

The accessories programme adds a roof tent developed with Italian specialist Autohome, plus folding chairs and camping tables created with Helinox. Mini quotes a stationary roof-load capacity of up to 300kg.
