Skoda has unveiled its new flagship electric SUV, the all-new Peaq, a large seven-seat model positioned as the battery-powered alternative to the Kodiaq.
The Czech brand says the Peaq is its most spacious and technologically advanced production vehicle to date, with top versions capable of travelling more than 630km on a single charge.
Unveiled this week, the Peaq becomes the second model developed around Skoda’s new Modern Solid design philosophy, following the smaller Epiq. It also introduces a raft of new features for the brand.
At 4874mm long and riding on a 2965mm wheelbase, the Peaq is now the largest SUV in the Skoda range. The dimensions allow seating for up to seven occupants, while still leaving 299 litres of luggage space behind the third row. With the rearmost seats folded, cargo capacity expands to 935 litres, while a 37-litre front trunk adds further storage.
Inside, the Peaq adopts a ‘lounge-like’ cabin design with vegan upholstery available across the launch range. A panoramic glass roof measuring 2.1 square metres features Dynamic Shade Control technology, allowing occupants to electronically adjust the amount of light entering the cabin.
An optional Relax Package includes massage seats, ergonomic leg rests, a 755W Sonos audio system and a dedicated ‘wellbeing application’. A new 13.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment system based on Android sits at the centre of the dashboard, while physical controls remain for key functions such as climate settings and audio volume.
The Peaq also introduces several Skoda firsts, including flush door handles, wireless smartphone charging with ‘magnetic alignment’, integrated windscreen washer nozzles, a new-generation heat pump and an advanced 360-degree parking camera system.
Aerodynamics have shaped the SUV’s development, with features such as active cooling shutters, specially designed wheels and flush-fitting door handles helping deliver a drag coefficient of less than 0.25.
Three powertrain variants are available from the factory.
The entry-level Peaq 60 uses a 63kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted 150kW electric motor, delivering up to 440km of range, a 0-100km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 160km/h. DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes 27 minutes.
Stepping up to the Peaq 90 brings a larger 91kWh battery, the largest ever fitted to a Skoda, and a 210kW rear electric motor. Range exceeds 630km, while 0-100km/h is dispatched in 7.1 seconds.
Topping the line-up is the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Peaq 90x, producing a combined 220kW and capable of reaching 100km/h in 6.7 seconds. Despite the extra performance, Skoda claims a driving range of up to 605km. Both larger-battery models can recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes.
Vehicle-to-load, vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid functionality are supported, while towing capacity reaches 2000kg in all-wheel-drive form. The SUV also introduces one-pedal driving and an upgraded Travel Assist 3.0 system capable of recognising traffic lights. Ten airbags and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance technologies are standard across the range.
A Sportline model will also be available from launch, featuring gloss black exterior detailing, sports seats and exclusive interior trim.
As to whether Peaq will make it here, Skoda NZ says it’s too early to comment on that; “This will be launched in Europe, then we will start having conversations about this when the model is released to the rest of the world.”
