Tesla cuts prices of cars in New Zealand yet again

Words: Harrison Wade

Tesla has cut the prices of two of its most popular models in New Zealand yet again after initially dropping their price just a few months ago.

In fact, this is the third time the electric carmaker has cut the prices of its vehicles after it did so in both January and February 2023.

Both the entry-level variants of the Model 3 and Model Y now cost $3000 less than they once did while the highly-specified flagship models have seen their prices drop by $5000.

The rear-wheel drive Model 3 was previously priced at $68,900 but is now priced at $65,900, while the rear-wheel drive Model Y’s price has dropped from $73,900 to $70,900.

In comparison, a base Model Y cost around $76,000 at the start of 2023 which means buyers now pay just over $5000 less for the electric SUV.

As for the flagship Performance variants of each model, their original $100,900 price tag now drops to $95,900 for both vehicles.

It was understood that Tesla originally slashed its vehicle’s prices due to a sales slump at the start of this year which seems to have worked its magic considering the Model Y topped the charts for EV sales with 761 new units registered in March.

Similar action is being taken in Australia too with both models receiving similar drops in price.
