If you’ve ever wanted to own a piece of New Zealand automotive history, then now’s your chance as a highly limited 1973 Holden Kingswood made for the 10th Commonwealth Games recently popped up for sale on TradeMe.

This is just one of 169 cars that were leased, stickered up, and used to transport staff and athletes during the 1974 edition of the global sporting event which was the first year it was held in New Zealand.

The car is now being offered for sale by The Classic Automobile Co. in exceptional condition for its age, with the buy now price set at $89,000.

While it may look similar to other Kingswoods of the era, it’s easy to tell that this is a ‘Games Car’ by its distinctive white paint job with a red and blue stripe running from front to back.

Also included with the car is a logbook showing who drove and rode in it during the sports event, as well as a series of other collectibles like coins, medals, and stamps.

This Holden’s drivetrain has been left as it was found on the showroom floor, consisting of a 253ci, or 4.2-litre V8, mated to an automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

Only three people have owned the car since new, those of which have collectively put little over 174,000km on the odometer.

The TradeMe listing for the ‘Games Car’ has received more than 20,000 views since being advertised in the past month.

With all that being said, we don’t think it’ll take long for this rare classic to be snatched up by one lucky buyer.
