Volkswagen has unveiled the successor to its ID.3 electric hatch in Europe. The Germans are calling it a significantly upgraded model, enough for them to add Neo to its official title.

The ID.3 Neo gets a redesign both inside and out, alongside improvements in efficiency, technology and driving range. The updated model adopts Volkswagen’s latest ‘Pure Positive’ design language, highlighted by a cleaner front-end design, a full-width light strip and an illuminated badge. Subtle changes to the roofline and rear styling are said to give the hatch a longer, lower and more dynamic stance.

Inside, the cabin has been reworked with a focus on quality and usability. Volkswagen says the interior materials and finish now rival those found in larger, more premium models, while the redesigned cockpit introduces a clearer layout and more intuitive controls. A new multi-function steering wheel and improved switchgear aim to enhance everyday ease of use.

Technology gets a boost with the latest Innovision infotainment system featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a larger 12.9-inch central touchscreen. A new in-car app store allows users to download additional features and services, similar to a smartphone experience.

Under the skin, the ID.3 Neo benefits from a new-generation electric drive system designed to deliver higher efficiency and improved performance. Three power outputs will be offered; 125kW, 140kW and 170kW. VW will also offer various battery options including 50kWh, 58kWh and 79kWh. With the largest battery, Volkswagen states a driving range of up to 630km (WLTP).

Charging capability has also been enhanced, with smaller battery variants supporting up to 105kW DC fast charging, while the largest battery can accept up to 183kW.

The updated model introduces a range of new driver assistance and convenience features, including enhanced travel assist with traffic light recognition, one-pedal driving, and vehicle-to-load capability, allowing external devices to be powered directly from the car’s battery.

Available in multiple trim levels, the ID.3 Neo can also be equipped with features such as an augmented reality head-up display, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system and advanced parking assistance.

Whether this model will come to NZ is still TBC. We have contacted VW NZ to discover its intentions. The original ID.3 was not offered here. Currently, the only electric models on offer include the ID.4 and ID.5 in top GTX spec, and the ID.Buzz. Â
