XPeng’s flagship X9 has gained New Zealand pricing, with the brand’s local website now listing the seven-seat electric MPV from $104,990, and the first customer cars are about to hit the road.
The X9 had been flagged as ‘coming soon’ since XPeng’s local launch, but the firm’s online configurator has now gone live with two variants for our market. The entry point is the X9 FWD Standard Range at $104,990, while the AWD Long Range tops the range at $124,990.
And this isn’t a paper launch. Demonstrators are already at dealers, and stock has landed.
“We have got cars on the ground, both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, 20 cars on the ground, deliveries starting this week,” an XPeng NZ spokesperson tells us.
The Standard Range model pairs a single front-mounted motor making 235kW and 450Nm with a 94.8kWh LFP battery. XPeng quotes a WLTP range of 535km, a 0-100km/h time of 8.2 seconds and consumption of 20.2kWh/100km.
Stepping up to the AWD Long Range brings a dual-motor set-up with outputs of 370kW and 640Nm, enough to shift the big MPV to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. A larger 110kWh NCM battery lifts range to 580km on the WLTP cycle, with consumption rated at 20.8kWh/100km.
Both variants are generously equipped. Seven seats are standard, as is dual-chamber air suspension, a Snapdragon 8295-powered infotainment system, a 27-speaker sound system and XPeng’s full XPILOT driver assistance suite, which includes automated parking and remote summon functionality.
The options list is short. Arctic White is the standard paint, with Silver Frost, Polar Violet, Lambent Cyan, Matte Gray and Midnight Black each adding $1800. Buyers can choose from three Nappa leather interior themes at no cost, while an electric tow bar adds $2400. Both variants are rated to tow 750kg unbraked and 1500kg braked.
At just over five metres long, the X9 lands in a thinly populated corner of the market, and its pricing rewrites the segment’s entry point. Its most direct rival, the Zeekr 009, spans roughly $150k to $163k in AWD 6- and 7-seat forms, meaning the entry X9 undercuts it by around $45,000, while the top X9 is still some $25k under the cheapest 009. The Zeekr counters with more power (450kW versus 370kW) and a bigger 116kWh battery, though the pair are line-ball on WLTP range. Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz sits in similar territory on price, though as a van-based people mover it plays a different game.
The X9 becomes the second model in XPeng’s local line-up, joining the G6 SUV that launched the brand here from $59,990. It won’t be the last arrival this year either, with XPeng NZ confirming the L03 is coming at the end of Q4.
