All-new Audi RS5 Avant leaked ahead of imminent launch
Words: Andrew Sluys
Set to replace the current RS4, Audi’s all-new RS5 Avant has been leaked ahead of the global unveiling, which is slated for this week.
The images of the full vehicle were leaked right after Audi posted a short teaser video of the wagon, which only shows its silhouette.
An Instagram user by the name of cochespias1 not only managed to uncover the Avant, but has also posted images of the RS5 sedan to their page.
Based on the Audi A5, it’s clear a fair bit of work went into the styling of the RS5, in order to differentiate it from the standard vehicle.
A re-designed front end is headlined by an aggressive front bumper with a huge air intake. This is flanked by large cooling intakes.
The body has also been pushed out at each corner, with the RS5 wearing large flared fenders, which is something Audi has always done with the RS models.
The rear is just as dramatic, with a large diffuser on the rear bumper, surrounding a pair of (almost too big) exhaust pipes.
I’m not sure if they’re too big, or too centred, but something about them looks a little strange.
It’s a familiar affair on the inside of the RS5, with Alcantara covering a lot of the interior, and red buttons hinting at its RS abilities.
As for tech, it looks like it carries the 11.9-inch digital cluster, the 14.5-inch infotainment display, and the 10.9-inch passenger display over from the regular A5.
As for powertrains, this new RS5 is rumoured to get a plug-in hybrid version of the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 in the current RS4.
This configuration should easily outgun the 270kW offered with the S5.
Audi is expected to unveil the RS5 in full today, officially marking the end of the RS4’s rivalry with the likes of the BMW M3 and AMG’s C63.
