Unveiled as the Jetour Zongheng F700, this new ute will likely serve as the global answer to the Stockman, which is set to arrive in New Zealand with diesel power.
The Zongheng F700 is the latest Chinese plug-in hybrid mid-size pick-up to be unveiled, and it’s clear the Land Cruiser Prado was an aesthetic inspiration.
Aside from these familiar looks, it also features black cladding, heavily sculpted fenders, and a bunch of outdoor accessories.
It measures 5486mm long, which is around the same size as the MGU9, or around 100mm longer than our traditional double-cab utes.
Beneath its skin, it sits on the same platform as the recently-unveiled G700 SUV, which uses a ladder-frame chassis, macpherson strut suspension up front, and multi-link suspension at the rear.
It also uses the same 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain. The turbocharged engine produces 155kW exclusively, but a combined figure for the hybrid system is yet to be announced.
In the G700, this system makes a hefty 660kW and 1134Nm, which allows it to hit 100km/h from a standing start in just 4.6-seconds.
While this doesn’t sound particularly fast by modern EV standards, it’s worth noting that the G700 tips the scales at over 3-tonnes.
It packs a CATL-made battery, which should be able to charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in just 10 minutes.
The combined range between petrol and electric power has been rated around 1,300km according to China’s optimistic CLTC testing cycle.
On the inside, it’s decked out with all the usual bells and whistles these high-tech Chinese vehicles get.
There’s a large landscape-mounted infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, but despite this, there’s still a plethora of physical buttons.
The Jetour Zongheng F700 is set to make its public debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this year.
