Cupra New Zealand has confirmed speculation that the Raval EV will be launched locally in early 2027.
A spokesperson from the brand’s New Zealand distributor confirmed it in a recent email to NZ Autocar:
“At this stage, we don’t have confirmed details around timing, pricing, or full specifications, but our current expectations are pointing towards having the car in NZ in early 2027.”
When it lands, the Raval will be the second EV offered by Cupra locally, and the smallest. The Tavascan SUV is the only EV currently sold locally.
Though local specifications are yet to be confirmed, we can glean some information from the European market, where the Raval is on sale.
The range-topping VZ variant is powered by a 52kWh battery, and gets a driving range of 400km (WLTP).
Less performance-focused versions that use the same battery can cover up to 450km (WLTP) on a single charge.
There is also a version with a 37kWh battery, although this one is unlikely to be offered in New Zealand.
The aforementioned Raval VZ uses a 166kW/290Nm motor on the front axle, and gets adaptive dampers, plus a limited-slip differential.
On the inside, the Raval looks very similar to the Tavascan, with a large infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, with a smaller digital cluster behind the steering wheel.
The Born previously occupied the small EV segment for Cupra when it was sold in New Zealand a few years back.
Where the Born was rear-wheel drive with impressive dynamics, the Raval seems to be a far more conventional front-driven hatch.
But with dimensions similar to that of the Volkswagen Polo, and a kerb weight under 1.6-tonnes, the Raval promises to be an interesting drive.
We can expect Cupra New Zealand to reveal information around pricing and specification of the Raval in the second half of this year.
