Report: Hellcat V8 engine to return to Dodge Charger by 2028
Words: Andrew Sluys
The iconic ‘Hellcat’ supercharged V8 engine will reportedly make its way into the new Dodge Charger by 2028.
News of this rumour was first published by Mopar Insiders, who claim that its well-informed sources have confirmed development of the engine on the platform.

Interestingly, it sounds like this new Charger will miss out on the naturally aspirated 5.7 and 6.4-litre V8s offered by Dodge in other vehicles, and go straight to the supercharged 6.2.
It’s an understatement to say Mopar fans were disappointed to see petrol power ditched for this new generation Charger when it was launched, as it was initially offered with electric power exclusively.
This has since been rectified with the addition of the turbocharged inline-six ‘Hurricane’ engine to the range, which makes up to 410kW.
Despite this hefty chunk of grunt from the sixer, Mopar fans still felt shortchanged without a Hellcat in the Charger, and it seems Dodge is finally rectifying this.

The Hellcat engine has been offered in the New Zealand market through two vehicles, first in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and then more recently with the RAM TRX.
The more famous Charger and Challenger Hellcat pairing were never sold locally, as is also the case for the Durango Hellcat.
