Kia announces local pricing for seven-seat PV5 Passenger van

Words: Andrew Sluys

Kia New Zealand has announced pricing for the all-electric PV5 Passenger van, which is available now through the local dealer network.

It is priced from $71,990, which represents a $7,000 premium above the entry-level PV5 Cargo version.

As the name suggests, this PV5 Passenger drops the bulkhead behind the front seats and adds a comfy cabin, complete with seven seats.

Aside from the creature comforts, it’s essentially the same van with a 71.2kWh battery, which powers an electric motor on the front axle.

The peak outputs of this motor are 120kW and 250Nm, which allows it to hit 100km/h in a modest 10.6-seconds.

Despite the similarities in powertrain with the cargo variant, the PV5 Passenger is 1.8-seconds faster to 100km/h.

This increased performance means total range is slightly down to 397km according to WLTP testing.

It comes with an 11kW onboard charger, but this can be upgraded to a 22kW unit for faster AC charging.

While the New Zealand release doesn’t mention DC fast charging, this PV5 passenger is capable of charging at 150kW in other markets.

This PV5 Passenger arrives with Kia’s full suite of advanced driver safety features, including lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

As for safety, it hasn’t been tested by ANCAP, but the PV5 Cargo was awarded a platinum rating for collision avoidance.

On the inside, the seats are finished in artificial leather, and the front seats get a heating function.

As for tech, there’s a 7.5-inch digital cluster, and a 12.9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Speaking on the addition of the PV5 Passenger to its local line-up Kia New Zealand Managing Director Todd McDonald was excited by the opportunities that it opens up.

“The Kia PV5 Passenger is a significant addition to our electric vehicle line-up, offering New Zealanders a genuinely versatile seven-seat option that puts functionality, comfort and technology at the forefront,” said Mr McDonald.

“Kia offers New Zealand’s largest fully electric vehicle range consisting of six different models and numerous variations, demonstrating the marque’s dominance in this sector.  The arrival of the PV5 Passenger extends that choice into a segment where we already have a proven track record.

“For more than two decades, the Carnival has been one of New Zealand’s most trusted people movers.  We evolved the Carnival from diesel to hybrid to better reflect changing customer expectations, and now the addition of the fully electric PV5 Passenger allows us to offer an even broader range of solutions for Kiwi families and businesses.

“Not every customer has the same needs and that’s exactly what makes this range so compelling.  Whether it’s hybrid through Carnival or fully electric through PV5, we’re giving New Zealanders the flexibility to choose the powertrain and ownership experience that works best for them.”
