Mitsubishi unveils beefed-up Triton Raider, will it come to NZ?
Words: Andrew Sluys
Mitsubishi Australia has taken the covers off the Triton Raider, which is a beefed-up version of the standard ute.
The Raider has come about through a partnership with Premcar, which is known for its local suspension tuning work for the Australian market.

As the name suggests, this special edition Triton was inspired by Mitsubishi’s efforts at Rally Raid events around the world.
Based on the Triton GSR, the biggest upgrades are in the suspension, where Premcar has developed a local tune.
Alongside the usual damper tuning on the Triton, the steering system has also been upgraded to handle this new gear.

Aside from the handling stuff, it also gets a black sports bar, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
These black wheels are wrapped in 285/60 Bridgestone Dueler A/T 002 all-terrain tyres to handle some work off the tarmac.
Due to a different offset, these new wheels also increase the track width of the Triton by 20mm at the front and rear.

While there are no changes on the inside, ‘sandstorm’ decals and Raider badging on the exterior set it apart from the standard ute.
When we asked Mitsubishi New Zealand whether the Triton Raider was in its plans, the response wasn’t promising.
“We’ll continue to monitor progress with the Triton Raider, but as of today, it’s not in our immediate plans,” a spokesperson said.
But considering the standard Nissan Navara now benefits from Premcar suspension, and the same goes for the new Navara Warrior, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this stance changed.
