Mitsubishi has given the world its first glimpse of an all-new off-road SUV, which will likely become the Pajero Sport, with Triton underpinnings.

The snapshot comes from a video Mitsubishi recently released, showing off the brand’s rally heritage, with cameos from Dakar heroes such as the Pajero Evolution alongside the Lancer Evolution.

The main focus of the video is the Triton Ralliart, which is shown in action, racing the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR).

In the closing seconds of the video, an SUV makes an appearance, but due to the harsh backlighting, it’s impossible to make out any details.

It is this SUV that is picked to become the new Pajero Sport.

Details of this new Pajero Sport remain a mystery, but if it does use the Triton as a base like previous generations, it will be powered by a turbocharged 2.4-litre diesel engine making 150kW and 470Nm of torque.

While the current-generation Pajero Sport is still sold locally by Mitsubishi New Zealand, considering it was introduced in 2015, it’s likely near the end of its lifespan.

Mitsubishi hasn’t released any information regarding this new Pajero Sport, aside from this video, so there’s no telling how far away from production it remains.
