Citroën teases electric 2CV ahead of imminent reveal

Words: Kyle Cassidy

Citroën has released new teaser images of its revived 2CV, revealing retro styling details ahead of an unveiling on Sunday 11 October.

The electric model is expected to become the French brand’s entry-level passenger car, sitting between the Ami quadricycle and C3 supermini. Citroën has previously said it will cost less than €15,000 in Europe.

Citroën boss Xavier Chardon says the new 2CV is intended to give “buying power” back to European motorists, describing it as “a true people’s car designed for real life”.

The latest pictures show several visual connections to the original ‘Tin Snail’. Dome-shaped headlights sit high on the front wings, while pronounced bonnet strakes recall the ridged panels of early 2CVs.

An open air duct between the bonnet and front wings references later versions of the original car.

Large steel-style wheels wear Michelin tyres, another link to the past given the tyre company’s involvement in developing the first 2CV.

The revival will be among the attractions at the Paris motor show, with affordability central to its positioning. Chardon says it “will democratise electric mobility”.

Citroën has designed the model with the European Union’s proposed E-car rules in mind. The proposal would incentivise sales of small electric cars built within the EU, potentially supporting the 2CV’s low-cost brief.

“The future of mobility will not be won by the most complex cars but by the simplest and the most intuitive ones,” Chardon said. “What truly matters is to be relevant.”

The 2CV revival has been in the planning since early 2025, as Citroën looked for opportunities in Europe’s affordable-car market.

Expect further details when the car is revealed.
