F1: Liam Lawson scores points for Red Bull in Madrid
Words: Andrew Sluys
Liam Lawson has continued his successful 2026 Formula 1 campaign, scoring points during his third appearance in the Red Bull car.
Finishing in sixth position, Lawson managed to net another eight points, bringing his championship total to 59.

While 59 may not sound like a lot in the face of the leaders, it’s actually a new record for a Kiwi driver throughout a single year campaign.
Denny Humle managed to score 51 during his 1967 season which he won, but that was with far more conservative point tallys.
“From where we started, it was an okay race,” he said. “It would have been nice to qualify higher yesterday, that was a little bit frustrating on my behalf.

“I felt much more comfortable in the car. Overall I feel good. [There are] some things that are closer to my car that feel a bit nicer to drive now.
“To switch between cars now is not ideal, but now that I’ve spent a bit of time in this car, I’m a bit more comfortable.”
This finish sees Liam retain ninth position in the Driver’s Championship, 18 points ahead of Pierre Gasly.
He’s also only 12 points behind Isack Hadjar, who he has replaced in the Red Bull for the last three race weekends.
Further towards the front of the grid, Kimi Anotonelli claimed yet another race victory, with Max Verstappen coming in second.
Lando Norris rounded out the podium, ahead of Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
