Powering the diesel-electric hybrid 508 RXH is the same 2.0-litre HDi HYbrid4 drivetrain as found in the 3008 HYbrid4.

It has a combined power output of 197hp and the engine and electric motor provides 332lb ft of torque.

The 508 RXH is capable of travelling on electric power only over short distances. Its combined economy figure is 67.2mpg and CO² emissions are 109g/km.

The new car is higher and wider than the 508 SW, with special features including 18-inch alloys, tinted windows and three verticle LED light strips on the grill that resemble a “lion’s claw”.

Its suspension is also raised and there is black cladding for the door sills and wheel arches.

Inside, the Peugeot 508 RXH gets leather seats, panoramic glass roof and sat-nav.

The 508 RXH is the latest addition in Peugeot’s so-called ‘hors series’ of models, which aim to make more luxurious, sporty and profitable cars off standard platforms. The first hors series Peugeot was the RCZ.

The Peugeot 508 RXH will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
