More details on small Lexus hybrid released

On sale early next year, the Lexus CT 200h hybrid hatchback is geared towards the eco-friendly crowd, rather than tyre burners.

Power comes from a 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine putting out 98hp (73kW), combined with an 80hp electric motor. The combined output is 134hp (100kW), allowing the hybrid to have an estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg (combined).

Acceleration figures report the 0-60mph “dash” at 9.8 seconds and the top speed is 180 km/h.

Inside, the cabin features an eight-inch LCD display, metallic accents and soft touch materials. Environmentalists will feel good about the “bamboo charcoal-based resin diaphragm speakers”, LED lighting and bioplastic dashboard components.

The car is also outfitted with a four-mode drive selection switch, which allows owners to choose between maximum efficiency or performance. Sport mode reduces the influence of the safety features (stability control / traction control), while Eco mode retards throttle inputs and the air conditioner. Normal mode speaks for itself and EV mode enables the CT 200h to travel up to one mile emissions free at speeds up to 45km/h.

As Lexus’ first hybird in the small car segment, the CT 200h joins the RX450h, GS450h and LS600hL models to create a full range of hybrid vehicles for Lexus.
