The 2.0-litre sedan is available with five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearboxes, and the range includes a high-specification Elite model.
Elantra prices range from $27,990 for the manual to $32,990 for the auto Elite.
Wider doors make access easier, and the interior includes a six-speaker stereo on all models, along with steering wheel-mounted controls.
The cabin includes 12-volt power outlets and auto-lights off when the ignition is switched off.
The Elite gets sumptuous leather interior trim, cruise control, and a trip computer.
Power comes from a 2.0 litre CVVT engine.
Front suspension is by MacPherson struts, and there is a multi-link set-up
at the rear.
Hyundai says the Elantra chassis has been tuned to combine responsive handling with good ride comfort.
The safety kit on all models includes ABS braking, and front, side and curtain airbags.
There are three-point seatbelts for all five occupants.
The Elite adds an electronic stability programme, designed to take over braking and traction when a critical situation arises.
