New Audi A6 to arrive in NZ in April

Words: Kyle Cassidy

The new Audi A6 Avant will arrive in New Zealand in April, with pricing set to start at $158,990 plus on-road costs.

Built on Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), the latest A6 Avant combines a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI petrol engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid (MHEV plus) technology. The powertrain produces 270kW and 550Nm, enabling a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.7 seconds. The mild-hybrid system can provide up to 18kW and 230Nm of additional boost under acceleration, while also supporting efficiency and allowing systems such as the air-conditioning compressor to operate when the engine is switched off. A seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive are standard.

Visually, the new A6 Avant adopts a sharper, more athletic look with S line exterior styling, 21-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, black exterior accents and black roof rails. Digital Matrix LED headlights and digital OLED rear lights give the wagon a distinctive lighting signature. Aerodynamics have also been improved, with a drag coefficient of 0.25 – the lowest of any combustion-powered Audi Avant to date.

Measuring 4.99 metres in length, the new model is 60mm longer than its predecessor and rides on a 2927mm wheelbase. Boot space is rated at 466 litres, expanding to 1497 litres with the 40:20:40 split rear seats folded. An electrically operated tailgate with hands-free function, rail system, load-securing kit and partition net are all standard.

Adaptive air suspension with electronically controlled damping is standard, automatically adjusting ride height according to speed and drive mode. The system can lower the vehicle at highway speeds for improved aerodynamics or raise it by up to 20mm when needed. All-wheel steering is also fitted, allowing the rear wheels to turn up to five degrees opposite the fronts at low speeds, reducing the turning circle to 11.3 metres.

Inside, Audi describes the cabin as a “business lounge”, centred around a curved digital display panel. This includes an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display with OLED technology, complemented by a 10.9-inch front passenger display. Ambient lighting and softwrap trim elements stretching across the dashboard aim to enhance the sense of width and refinement.

Audi’s integrated brake control (brake-by-wire) system enables faster brake pressure build-up and seamless blending between regenerative and friction braking. Working alongside the adaptive dampers, there is a sport rear differential and brake torque vectoring, the setup designed to deliver sharper handling while maintaining long-distance comfort.

Full local specification details will be confirmed closer to the A6 Avant’s April 2026 launch.
