The Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD can now be ordered on the Tesla New Zealand website. It is priced from $83,900, although the driveway figure, once delivery charges are added, is $86,250.
For reference, the Model Y Premium Long-range AWD is $77,900, the RWD model being $67,900.Â
The specs include 681km of range giving it the longest touring ability of the lineup, 81km more than the Premium Long Range. This suggests there’s a slightly bigger battery underneath though those details are not yet confirmed, Tesla only noting it is a NMC type. The 0 to 100 time is a claimed 5.0 seconds thanks to a total output of 378kW and 590Nm.
The long wheel base model has three rows of seating for six people with two individual pews in the middle row creating a walkthrough space to those in the rear.

The L is 177mm longer overall than the five seat model, 150mm of that is from the extended wheelbase. It is also a little taller to add headroom for the passengers in the rear.
The seats are said to be an all new design with heated and ventilated first and second row pews, which are also all electrically adjusted. The third row gets heaters, while the second row captain’s chairs come with electrically powered armrests that fold away when the seats are not in use. Both rows can be folded flat electrically to realise 2539 of storage capacity. With all rows in use, there is 420L in behind the third row, while in regular four seat mode, there’s a quoted 1076L. And don’t forget the 116L frunk, and there is a decent under floor bin in the boot as well.
Model Y L gains continuous variable damping, which Tesla says reacts to road conditions and driving styles to improve vehicle ride quality and handling. There are two selectable suspension modes; Balanced and Rear Comfort.
The Model Y six-seater weighs in at stated 2088kg and is capable of towing loads of 1588kg braked, with Tesla saying the tow package is ‘a service item post-delivery’.
19-inch wheels are standard as is an All Black interior. The Zen grey upholstery is a $1700 option. Pearl white paint is included while other colours are a cost option between $1700 and $3000.
